Best Muslim app blockers in 2026: an honest comparison
The best Muslim app blocker is the one whose unlock rule matches your goal. If you want to build a daily Quran habit and complete the whole Quran, pick an app that unlocks only when your own daily goal is done, such as Qurb (iPhone). If you'd rather unlock after a page, a few minutes or another act of worship, apps such as Quran Time, Quran Unlock, Quran Gate and Quran Mode work too, and some of them also run on Android.
Since 2025, a wave of apps has appeared that lock your phone until you’ve read some Quran. They look alike in screenshots, but they work in quite different ways. The real difference is what unlocks your apps: a timer, a page, a set number of minutes, or your own daily goal.
We make Qurb, so we’re not neutral. We’ve tried to be fair: every fact about another app comes from its own App Store or Google Play listing or website, checked on 3 November 2026. The sources are listed at the bottom. If something has changed, email us and we’ll fix it.
The short version
| App | What unlocks your apps | Platforms | Good fit if you want… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qurb | Finishing your own daily Quran goal (a few verses, a page, a juz, any amount) | iPhone (locking is iOS only) | A daily habit that carries you through the whole Quran |
| Quran Gate | Reading after you hit a daily time limit (time with the Quran, or a reading sized to your goal, per its website) | iPhone and Android | Time limits on apps, with Quran as the way back in |
| Quran Unlock | 5 minutes of Quran after each prayer time, or custom rules (iPhone); a daily pages or minutes goal (Android) | iPhone and Android | Tying your phone to the five prayers |
| Quran Time | Reading a page of Quran (with a 150-second timer) before using a blocked app | iPhone | A firm pause before social media |
| Quran Mode | Choice of reading, listening to or reflecting on Quran, dua, dhikr, or a prayer-related step | iPhone | Flexible, worship-based unlocks and prayer reminders |
| nafs | A "salah lock" that shields apps during prayer windows until you pray | iPhone | An all-in-one Muslim companion app with a prayer lock |
Ratings and sizes vary a lot. Quran Unlock is the most established of the blocker-first apps we checked: over 100,000 installs on Google Play, and it says more than 300,000 people use it. Qurb and Quran Gate are newer and smaller.
How to choose
Ask yourself three questions.
- Do I want a pause, or do I want today’s reading done? A page or a few minutes before every scroll is a strong pause. A daily goal makes sure the reading happens every day, whatever else happens with the phone.
- Am I trying to complete the Quran? If you are, it helps when the app remembers exactly where you got to and how much is left. Try our completion planner to see what daily amount fits your timeline.
- Which phone do I have? Most of these apps use Apple’s Screen Time on iPhone. Fewer have Android versions, and Qurb’s locking is iPhone only for now.
The apps, one by one
Qurb
Qurb locks the apps you choose at your reading time and unlocks them when you’ve completed your own daily goal. Not after a set number of minutes: your goal. It also tracks every verse you read, from Al-Fatihah to An-Nas, shows on Home how far through the Quran you are, and celebrates with you when you finish.
- Free: the full Quran reader, with Arabic, translations, transliteration, audio and offline reading. No ads.
- Premium: app locking. The yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial. Prices are shown in the App Store.
- Limits: iPhone only for locking. It’s a young app with a small number of ratings (4.9 from 11 ratings across App Store storefronts, October 2026).
Quran Gate
Quran Gate lets you set daily time limits for apps, games and websites. When you hit a limit, the apps lock, and reading Quran is the way back in. Its App Store listing describes this as “time with the Quran”. Its website says the unlock follows a reading sized to your daily goal, from half a page to three pages. The free version blocks one app; premium blocks unlimited apps, categories and websites and includes Family Sharing. It has recitation from six reciters with word-by-word highlighting, transliteration and several translations. It’s on iPhone and Android. Read our Qurb vs Quran Gate comparison.
Quran Unlock
Quran Unlock connects locking to the prayer times: after each prayer, your chosen apps stay locked until you’ve read five minutes of Quran. It also has a vertical “Reels mode” of verses, a mushaf reader, 15 languages, streaks and a Friday Al-Kahf lock. Its Google Play listing describes a daily reading goal (pages or minutes) instead of per-prayer locks. The core experience is free; premium adds unlimited apps and custom rules. It’s on iPhone and Android, and has the most installs of the blocker-first apps we checked.
Quran Time
Quran Time asks you to read a page of the Quran, with a 150-second timer, before you can use a blocked app. A subscription is required for the app to work. It’s made by Quran Buddy, which also offers Quran teachers.
Quran Mode
Quran Mode gives you several ways to unlock: reading, listening to or reflecting on Quran, making dua or dhikr, using a tasbih counter, or a prayer-related step. It also has prayer times and salah reminders.
nafs
nafs is a broad Muslim companion app (Quran reader with many reciters, prayer times, journal, dhikr counter and more). It includes a “salah lock” that shields distracting apps during prayer windows until you pray. If you want one app for many things, it’s worth a look. If you want a Quran reading goal to be the key, a Quran-first blocker fits better.
What about general blockers like Opal or ScreenZen?
They’re excellent at blocking, with many more options than the Muslim-specific apps, and both run on iPhone and Android. They don’t have a Quran reader or a reading goal, so the unlock isn’t tied to your Quran. We compare them in Qurb vs Opal and ScreenZen.
Where Qurb fits
Qurb is for you if you want the phone to wait until today’s Quran reading is done, and you want that daily reading to add up to completing the Quran. If you’re on Android, or you’d rather have short pauses throughout the day than one daily goal, one of the other apps above may suit you better, and that’s fine. What matters is that you read.
“Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured.” (Ar-Ra’d 13:28, Sahih International)

Questions
What is a Muslim app blocker?
It's an app that locks distracting apps, such as TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, until you've done something for your deen, usually reading some Quran. On iPhone, they use Apple's Screen Time, so the lock is part of the phone itself, not a reminder you can swipe away.
Which Muslim app blockers work on Android?
From the store listings we checked on 3 November 2026, Quran Unlock and Quran Gate are on Google Play as well as the App Store. Qurb's app locking is iPhone only for now. Check each app's Google Play listing before you install, because this changes quickly.
Do these apps see which apps I use?
On iPhone, apps built on Apple's Screen Time framework get your app choices in a form they can't read. Qurb never sees which apps you lock. For other apps, read each developer's privacy policy.
Is it better to unlock after one page or after a daily goal?
It depends on what you want. A short toll (one page, a few minutes) adds a pause before every scroll. A daily goal makes sure today's reading is actually done, and if the goal is big enough, it carries you through the whole Quran over time. Qurb uses the daily goal.
