Honest comparison

Qurb vs Quranly: which Quran habit app is right for you?

Both apps help you read the Quran every day with goals, streaks and reminders. Quranly is the bigger, longer-running habit app, on iPhone and Android, with reading levels, hasanat tracking and a family leaderboard. Qurb adds real app locking: your distracting apps stay locked until your daily goal is done, and it tracks every verse until you complete the Quran. Qurb's locking is iPhone only.

What Quranly does better

  • It’s proven. Quranly has been on the App Store since 2021 and has over a million downloads on Google Play. That’s a lot of people building a Quran habit with it.
  • Android. If you’re on Android, Quranly works today. Qurb doesn’t yet.
  • Family and friends. The leaderboard and family reminders make it social, which some people find really motivating.
  • Reading levels. Its goals grow with you as you read more.

What Qurb does differently

  • A real lock. Qurb locks the apps you choose, such as TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, at your reading time. They open again the moment today’s goal is done. A reminder can be swiped away; a lock waits for you.
  • Your goal unlocks your apps. Quranly doesn’t lock apps. In Qurb, the apps you choose stay locked until you’ve read the amount you chose, so the habit is real.
  • Built around completing the Quran. Qurb remembers every verse you read, shows how far through the Quran you are and when you’re on track to finish, insha’Allah, and helps you catch up on verses you skipped. Want to see your own date? Try the completion planner.
  • Free reader, no ads. Arabic, translations, transliteration, audio and offline reading are free. Only locking is premium.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Quranly if you’re on Android, you want a social leaderboard with family and friends, or reminders are enough to keep you reading.
  • Choose Qurb if your phone is what gets in the way, you’re on iPhone, and you want today’s reading to be done before the scrolling starts, with every day adding up to completing the Quran.

Whichever you pick, the habit matters more than the app. If you’re starting out, our guide to building a daily Quran habit may help.

Questions

Does Quranly block apps?

Not as far as we can tell. Quranly's App Store listing and website, checked on 3 November 2026, describe goals, streaks, reminders, reading levels and a leaderboard, and don't mention locking other apps. Qurb does lock apps, using Apple's Screen Time.

Is there a free alternative to Quranly?

Quranly itself has a free download with in-app purchases. Qurb's full Quran reader is free too, with Arabic, translations, transliteration, audio and offline reading, and no ads. Qurb's app locking is premium, and the yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

Can I use Qurb on Android?

Not yet. Qurb's app locking uses Apple's Screen Time, so it's iPhone only for now. Quranly is on both iPhone and Android.

Can I use both?

Yes. Some people keep a favourite reader or tracker and use a blocker alongside it. Just remember that Qurb unlocks your apps when you read in Qurb, because that's where it counts your verses.
